You've probably been burned before. So have most of our members. Here's exactly how Modern Dating - one of the most careful dating sites for people with disabilities - protects your profile, your messages, and your pace.
Fake profiles are the first complaint disabled daters raise on mainstream apps. We attack the problem early. Every Modern Dating member is invited to complete an optional video verification - a short selfie-style clip reviewed by our human safety team, not a face-matching algorithm. Verified members display a soft mint checkmark on their profile so you can tell real from suspicious at a glance.
You can also choose, in your settings, to browse or message only verified members. That single toggle shuts out most scams, catfish accounts, and throwaway profiles before they ever reach your inbox.
After repeated dishonesty on generic apps - fake photos, stolen profiles, and scammers targeting disability income - our members told us verification wasn't nice-to-have. It was the whole point. So we built it in, kept it free, and made it optional rather than required, because not everyone can safely film themselves on camera.
Prefer to browse without verifying yourself? That's fine. You can still message verified members and be fully active - you just won't display the mint badge until you opt in.
Every report is read by a real person on our safety team, usually within 24 hours. No bot-only queues, no ghosted tickets.
You can report directly inside any chat or profile, or email our safety team at [email protected]. We take emotional reports seriously - you don't need a legal argument, just tell us what happened. If you're in immediate danger, please contact local emergency services first.
For questions about account data, deletion, or our full legal policies, see Terms & Privacy.
Devotees - people who fetishize disability itself - are banned from Modern Dating. No exceptions, no debate, no second chances for "I was just curious." Disability is not a kink, and our members are not a category to collect.
We screen new accounts for devotee-adjacent language, remove them on first confirmed report, and permanently block the associated email, phone, and device fingerprint. If someone asks intrusive questions about your body, your care, or your anatomy before asking your name - block, report, move on. We'll handle the rest.
If you've experienced a devotee on a different platform, you're not alone - and you're not being oversensitive. Read more red flags to watch for.
Three tools, one tap each. You never have to explain why.
Removes the other member from your chats, search results, and likes instantly. They are not notified. You can unblock later, or never.
Six clear categories - Harassment, Inappropriate, Misinformation, Offensive, Suspicious, Other - route straight to our human safety team for 24-hour review.
Hide your profile and pause all messaging without deleting your account. Come back when you're ready. Your conversations and matches are saved.
Our built-in chat lets you talk for weeks - or months - without ever sharing your phone number, email, home city, or last name. That single choice is the most effective online dating safety tip we know, especially for disabled singles who face higher rates of stalking and financial scams.
When you're ready to move a conversation off-platform, that's your call - but there's no rush. Many of our couples chatted for a month or more in-app before swapping numbers.
Plain-language version. The full legal version lives on our Terms & Privacy page.
Modern Dating is an 18+ platform. We have a zero-tolerance policy for any Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE) content or behavior. Accounts suspected of targeting minors are banned immediately and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement where required by law.
To report suspected CSAE content or a minor on the platform, email [email protected] or use the in-app Report tool and select "Suspicious." Reports are prioritized and reviewed within hours, not days.
Whenever you're ready - and only then - here's how to stay safe moving from chat to coffee. These apply to every online dating safety conversation, not just disabled dating.
A coffee shop you know, a quiet cafe, a bookstore. Check in advance that the venue is accessible for whatever mobility, sensory, or service-animal needs you have.
Share the venue, your date's first name, the time you'll arrive, and the time you plan to leave. Agree on a check-in text. A support person on standby is a right, not a burden.
Don't let a first date pick you up from your home. Use your own rideshare, paratransit, driver, or public transit so you can leave whenever you choose.
Your home address, your SSN, your bank, your employer's name - none of that belongs on a first date. Anyone pushing for it is a red flag.
No matter how sympathetic the story. Disabled daters are targeted by romance scams at elevated rates. A real partner will never ask.
If something feels off, it is off. You don't owe anyone a polite goodbye. Tap Report on the way home.
The loneliness and safety gap isn't a feeling - it's measurable. This is the context every feature on this page was built for.
