Our Founder's Story: Searching for a Place to Belong
Modern Dating started the way many of the best community projects do - with one person refusing to accept that love had to be harder because they were disabled. Our co-founder, Jacqueline, spent years searching for a legitimate dating app where she could meet people like her. Instead, she found ghosting, rude messages, and devotees treating her body like a curiosity.
In 2021, Jacqueline began using a feeding tube for gastroparesis. That experience intensified an anxiety she already knew too well - the fear of ableism and discrimination the moment you disclose. Here's the thing: she wasn't looking for pity. She was looking for dinner plans, inside jokes, and someone who wouldn't flinch.
Her sister Alexa, who is non-disabled, listened. Together they set out to give Jacqueline - and what the UN calls the world's largest minority - a dating experience that was honest, playful, and safe. That vision grew into the platform you're reading about now.
Today, our team carries that story forward with a simple commitment: nothing about us without us. Every feature we ship is co-designed with disabled users, reviewed by disabled moderators, and tested against the real ways ableism shows up in online dating.

Merriam-Webster defines inclusive as "covering all items" and, in its second sense, "accommodating people historically excluded because of race, gender, sexuality, or ability." We built Modern Dating around that second sense. Our mission is to make one of the most welcoming dating sites for people with disabilities on the internet - a place where disclosure is optional, accessibility is standard, and community comes before algorithm.
